The Art of Rediscovery

“Can you see anything?”

“Yes, wonderful things.”

Lord Carnarvon & Howard Carter · Tomb of Tutankhamun · 1922

Sample extract from a Rediscovery Report: Krishna folio, Jaipur, early 1840s. Scope: origin, provenance, market context. Provenance: presented to Shri Hazur of Jaipur, 1844; H.H. Maharaja of Bikaner, collection stamp on verso; private collection, Switzerland. Findings: the verso inscription, dated Samvat 1901 (1844 CE), identifies the subject as Shri Thakur ji; stylistic analysis supports a Jaipur origin in the early 1840s.
